Improved Planting Materials

Under government subsidy policy like in other crops, tea crop is subsidized in improved planting materials The project is funded by the government through input subsidy from the ministry of Agriculture, Food Security and Co operatives (MAFC) and is implemented by TSHTDA by supporting the smallholders to establish and manage of village based group nurseries, the project started in July 2007. The groups are supported by providing them with nursery materials such as polythene tubes, polythene sheets, watering cans, foot pumps (Money maker pumps), chemicals and expertise which group members cannot easily access within their nursery vicinities. On the other side group members contribute their labour, the nursery sites and other materials that can be sourced within the nursery vicinity. Up to June 30 2010 a total of 1,622.3 million were disbursed for the raised 25.9 million vp plants in different tea growing districts as described below:
